Northern California native Irene Roberts makes a special debut this summer when she takes to the stage of San Francisco Opera for the first time in their new production of Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann. The mezzo-soprano takes on the role of Giulietta, the Venetian courtesan who steals Hoffmann’s heart, and then his soul, for a nine show run beginning on June 5 and ending July 6. The new production by Laurent Pelly also stars Matthew Polenzani as the lovelorn poet Hoffmann, French soprano Natalie Dessay as Antonia, and Christian van Horn as the four villians.
